The nation’s No. 1 team will play this weekend without its best player.

If you missed the news this week, the College Football Playoff committee revealed its debut rankings for the 2019 season and Ohio State was placed above both Alabama and LSU in the rankings. Even if the Buckeyes win on Saturday against Maryland, there’s a chance Ohio State loses its grip on the top slot thanks to either Alabama or LSU earning a marquee win over the weekend and the uncertainty surrounding the program’s best player.

On Friday, Ohio State announced that defensive end Chase Young has been suspended for the team’s upcoming game against Maryland. According to the school, Young’s suspension is “due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into.”

No other comment has been released at this time regarding the suspension.

Young currently leads the nation in sacks (13.5) and saved his finest performance for when the Buckeyes needed him the most, as he registered four sacks against Wisconsin.

The junior defender is not only a Heisman Trophy candidate but a contender to become the first overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
