Deion  Sanders is not expected to coach Jackson State for the second consecutive week, according to a FootballScoop report.

Last week, Sanders announced that he would not coach the team’s Oct. 23 game against Bethune-Cookman, citing his Sep. 22 foot surgery. The FootballScoop report states, per several sources, that Sanders is currently hospitalized. In addition to his recovery from surgery, Sanders is also dealing with an unspecific illness, per the report.

FootballScoop writes that, at the publishing time of its report, Jackson State athletic department had not answered questions about Sanders’ illness or when they expect him to return to the football field in the coming weeks.

Jackson State is 6-1 going into this weekend’s game against Mississippi Valley and will be coached again by assistant Gary Harrell.
