It’s not college football season unless UCF is making some kind of bold claim.

Remember, UCF claimed a national championship following their undefeated 2017 season in which it defeated Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Last year, the claims took a year off after suffering 3 losses. Now, they’re claiming they’re the best team in the state for 2020.

The Knights torched Georgia Tech Saturday 49-21. Yes, the same Georgia Tech team that out-classed Florida State last week 16-13.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel shined for UCF, completing 27-of-41 for a career-high 417 yards and 4 touchdowns. The southpaw will remind you of Tua Tagovailoa in more ways than 1. He has a smooth, quick delivery and even hails from Hawaii.

Following the win over the Yellow Jackets, Gabriel made the claim that the Knights are the best team in the state.

“You saw what happened last week (with Georgia Tech beating FSU), you can say we’re the best team in Florida,” he said, per 247Sports’ Jason Beede.

The Florida Gators are the only team from Florida ranked in the top 10, and Miami looks to be having a revival of sorts with quarterback D’Eriq King.

One thing’s for certain — the AAC is a strong conference this season, but UCF has to worry about ranked Cincinnati and ranked Memphis before it can make any claims or get a fair shot to prove it in a bowl.

The Big Ten returning to participate in the College Football Playoff really hurt UCF’s (and others) chances at making the final 4. Nonetheless, the battle of the AAC will certainly be entertaining, but it likely  won’t get a shot at the Playoff (again).

So, prepare yourselves accordingly for UCF players and fans to start making noise.
