Jim Harbaugh is back in the NFL, making his return to the league after 9 years at Michigan and finally producing a national title in Ann Arbor.

On Friday, Harbaugh made an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” to discuss his decision to ultimately leave the Wolverines for the Los Angeles Chargers. The head coach broke down the factors in his decision and admitted there were “a lot of reasons” to make his way back to the NFL.

“Meeting with the Chargers, the Spanos family. As you know my priorities are faith, family, football. This vision that the family had, and so many people here that when I played, there’s a real emotional connection,” said Harbaugh. “…The team. Justin Herbert. I think he’s a shining star, one of the real gems in the NFL.

“There are just so many things that just aligned, and it’s what I wanted to do. Plus, the NFL. I love the NFL. I love Michigan, and I love the NFL. The chance to win the Super Bowl trophy. I wanted to take another crack at that, so a lot of reasons.”

As a follow-up, Harbaugh admitted there is a finite amount of time each individual gets. Getting at least one more shot at a Super Bowl in his time left “was huge” in considering the decision.

“So many sands left in the hourglass,” Harbaugh explained. “Taking another crack at (the Super Bowl) is definitely something that was huge in factoring in the decision.”

While there appears to be a trend of college coaches looking to jump to the NFL due to the tumultuous nature of college athletics, Harbaugh was adamant that is not his case at all. In fact, Harbaugh said he loves the direction of college football in regard to NIL and the transfer portal though there is still a lot to be done.

“I really love the direction it’s going in college football,” Harbaugh claimed. “Name, Image, and Likeness: Yeah, it’s about time. There needs to be revenue sharing. That’s long overdue. you can’t just keep not paying the talent because that’s the way it’s always been done. The direction of the portal: Completely found that to be a positive a lot more than it was a negative… I think the direction is good. There’s a lot more that needs to be done, but in no way is it accurate that I left because of NIL or the transfer portal.”
