Michael Vick has been linked to another college football head coaching job, and a hiring could happen soon.
Earlier Monday, Vick revealed that he has interviewed for the head coaching position at Norfolk State. Now, Vick is being attached to another job, and this one has reportedly moved past the interview stage. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter posted on social media that Sacramento State is in discussions to hire Vick as the program’s next head coach.
The Sacramento State gig would be Vick’s first as a football coach. In 2018, he signed on to be the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Legends, a team in the spring professional league, the Alliance of American Football. Ahead of the AAF’s inaugural 2019 season, it was announced that Vick would not be the offensive coordinator, but would be involved with the team as an advisor. The AAF did not complete its 2019 season before permanently shutting down.
Vick, 44, played college football at Virginia Tech from 1998-2000, earning All-American recognition in 1999. He was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2001 NFL Draft, selected by the Atlanta Falcons. He remained with the Falcons through 2008 and then spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles (2009-13), New York Jets (2014) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2015). Vick was selected to the Pro Bowl 4 times (2002, ’04, ’05, ’10).
