Someone has got some explaining to do down in Tallahassee.

If you missed it late on Wednesday night, Florida State team captain Marvin Wilson issued a tweet that has generated a ton of attention, and based on Wilson’s comments, first-year Seminole coach Mike Norvell may have just lost his team before he even has a chance to coach them on the field.

This all started innocently enough. According to Tashan Reed of The Athletic, Norvell issued a lengthy statement noting the efforts Florida State had gone to communicate with the players on the football roster recently.

“We’ve had a lot of open communication with our team, our players and our coaches. I went back and forth individually with every player this weekend,” Norvell’s statement read. “And that was something that was important to me because this is a heartbreaking time in our country…”

While that statement echoes many we have seen in recent days from college coaches and programs, that’s not the way Wilson says it went down in Tallahassee.

Based on Wilson’s comments, which have since been followed up by several FSU players, Norvell didn’t reach out individually to any players outside of a mass text.

“Man this s*** did not happen mane. We got a generated text that was sent to everybody,” Wilson tweeted in response to Norvell’s statement. “There was no one on one talk between us and coach. This is a lie and me and my teammates as a whole are outraged and we will not be working out until further notice #hunchoout”

Considering Wilson’s presence as a team captain and his place as one of the better players on the team, FSU appears to have a real issue on its hands.

Getting players to buy-in to a program is all about trust and Norvell may have just lost any chance of getting the Seminoles to do that his first year in Tallahassee.
