The Oklahoma Sooners are undefeated no more, and the “two SEC teams in the College Football Playoff” talk received a massive boost.

Unranked Kansas State took down the Sooners Saturday 48-41, sending shockwaves around college football. If OU wasn’t in analysts’ top four, it was No. 5, just like the AP Poll. Now, we have a top five upset from an unranked team in KSU.

This upset will have implications around college football. Most notably, the selection committee, when it releases its first rankings on November 5, won’t like OU losing to an unranked opponent, and its Playoff dreams may be over. Obviously, there’s a lot of football left to play. OU’s weakest aspect in recent history has been defense, and it let them down once again Saturday. Kansas State racked up 432 yards, including 219 rushing yards.

Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson rushed for four touchdowns. Jalen Hurts, meanwhile, threw for 395 yards and rushed for 96 yards while scoring four total touchdowns. He’s obviously still in the Heisman Trophy conversation, but with the loss, his chances did take a slight hit.

Most thought Oklahoma had a cakewalk into the Playoff, but this one will certainly take its toll.
