Another head coach has reportedly been shown the door this season.

According to Yahoo’s Pete Thamel, Georgia Southern’s Chad Lunsford has been fired. The Eagles had won their first game over FCS Gardner-Webb 30-25 but had lost 3 straight to Florida Atlantic, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

Since initially being named interim head coach at Georgia Southern in 2017 before being named to the role permanently, Lunsford’s record is 28-21, including a 17-14 mark in the Sun Belt. He had coached the Eagles to 3 straight bowl appearances, winning the Camelia Bowl in 2018 and the New Orleans Bowl in 2020.

As Thamel notes, Lunsford is the 3rd coach in FBS to be fired or part ways with his team in 2021. USC fired Clay Helton on Sept. 13, while prior to that, UConn’s Randy Edsall announced his intent to retire following the 2021 campaign before being asked by the university to step down with immediate effect.

Georgia Southern next hosts Arkansas State on Oct. 2.
