Fresh off a Sugar Bowl loss to Georgia, Baylor’s Matt Rhule has landed a big promotion. He’s reportedly landed a job as head coach of the Carolina Panthers in the NFL, according to a report from Pete Thamel of Yahoo.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that, “One big draw was Panthers owner David Tepper being willing to put money into the sports science program that Rhule wants. Resources won’t be a problem.”

Rhule has led Baylor to a remarkable turnaround. Rhule was in his third season as Baylor head coach in 2019. After he led the Bears to 11 wins, a No. 7 national ranking and their first berth in the Big 12 Championship, Rhule was voted the Chuck Neinas Coach of the Year by his peers.

He led Baylor to its second-ever Sugar Bowl appearance and the 25th bowl berth in program history, a loss to Georgia. The Bears became the first Power 5 program to go from 11 losses to 11 wins within two seasons.

A Penn State graduate, Rhule previously coached with the New York Giants, and at Temple. As head coach of the Owls, he led the program to its first back-to-back 10-win seasons.

Here’s an interview he did with NFL Podcasts about developing prospects that are less than 5-stars, and how to identify maturity in prospects and figure out how much adversity they can handle:
