Vanderbilt Football History

Vanderbilt started playing football all the way back in 1890 and, in 1932, became a founding member of the Southeastern Conference.

In all of that time, the Commodores have never won an SEC title or played in the SEC Championship Game. They do have 14 conference titles in their history, but they all came prior to 1932. The Commodores won the SoCon title twice and the SIAA championship 12 times.

Recent years have not been very kind to the Commodores, who are firmly mired at the bottom of the SEC. Can current coach Clark Lea turn things around? Or will the Commodores make a change in the coming years?

College football is changing rapidly and Vanderbilt will need to adjust quickly to avoid being left behind. We’ll see if the Commodores can start the climb back up the SEC ladder.
