First, the Gators got their blue-chip quarterback. Now an elite pass-catcher is joining him.

Metairie, La. WR JaMarr Chase, ranked the No. 6 wideout in the country by 247Sports, announced Sunday on Twitter he had committed to Florida. It was a commitment that almost went very differently.

Last month, Chase was scheduled to announce his commitment from Nike’s “The Opening” prestigious competition camp live on NFL Network. The live announcement got scrapped when NFL Network left its coverage of the camp when an event ran overtime. Without his moment on live TV, Chase waited to commit. At the time, he was reportedly down to TCU and LSU, and expected to choose the Horned Frogs. Some saw this coming, as Chase’s stock rose significantly after an impressive showing at the camp.

He visited Florida for the Gators’ Friday Night Lights camp, which helped UF land highly rated California QB Matt Corral on Saturday. Now Corral is joined by one of the recruiting class’ top wideouts.

Chase, who measures 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, is pledge No. 13 for Florida’s 2018 class and the next-highest rated commit behind Corral with a 247Sports Composite score of 0.9496. His high school highlights can be seen below:
