Billy Napier picked up a big-time win on the recruiting trail to kick off the month of June for Florida.
Saturday afternoon, Florida picked up its first commitment in the 2026 recruiting class with a pledge from elite in-state quarterback Will Griffin. A top-100 prospect for the cycle, Griffin has received SEC offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Texas A&M to go with a host of other Power 5 offers.
He officially confirmed his commitment on social media, announcing he’s proud to be the first player committed for the 2026 recruiting class.

Griffin is listed at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds out of Tampa’s Jesuit High School. According to the 247 Sports Composite, he’s a 4-star prospect and the 89th overall recruit in the nation. Griffin is also rated as the 7th QB in the cycle.

Impact of the commitment
Florida is fresh off of signing 5-star QB DJ Lagway in the 2024 recruiting class, a top-10 overall prospect for the cycle. The Gators have yet to land a QB in the 2025 recruiting class, but the presence of Lagway and picking up Griffin for 2026 keeps a stream of talented QBs coming into Gainesville.
Billy Napier enters the 2024 season on a hot seat and embroiled in more off-field drama related to Jaden Rashada, but he’s picked up a key in-state player to jumpstart the 2026 recruiting class.
