Billy Napier and the Florida Gators are preparing to take on the Texas Longhorns in Week 11. Regardless of who is playing quarterback, the Gators will likely have an uphill battle. However, Napier did provide a promising update on his young signal-caller.

Lagway suffered a hamstring injury in the 1st quarter against Georgia in Week 10. Lagway’s injury was extra disappointing considering the Gators were locked in a tight game with the Bulldogs.

On Wednesday, Napier said Lagway’s progress has been “touch-and-go,” but the QB “wants to go this week.” He did note that Lagway was able to practice some this week:

The QB was listed as questionable in Florida’s SEC-mandated availability report released on Wednesday.

Graham Mertz was the original starter for Florida, but the veteran QB suffered a season-ending injury against Tennessee.

Third-string QB Aidan Warner came in against Georgia and struggled against the top-ranked defense. Warner completed just 7 of 22 passes for 66 yards with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. If Lagway can’t go, Warner would be expected to start once again.

Unfortunately for the Gators, Texas’ defense won’t be any easier to go against. The Longhorns have the No. 1 total defense in the country and are allowing just 11.5 points per game.

Lagway has shown flashes of brilliance at times in 2024. The QB has thrown for 1,071 yards with 6 TDs and 5 INTs in his freshman season. Entering Week 11, the Gators have a 4-4 overall record with a 2-3 mark in conference play.

The Gators and Longhorns will kick off from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday at Noon ET.
