Billy Napier provided an update on Florida’s star quarterback DJ Lagway (hamstring) on Wednesday ahead of the weekend’s matchup against No. 21 LSU. It wasn’t exactly a descriptive one.
The quarterback was held out of the team’s latest matchup against the Texas Longhorns, which Florida lost, 49-17. It sounded like Lagway was close to being back based on the way Napier spoke about the quarterback during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference preceding the game against Texas.
“DJ (Lagway) continues to improve,” Napier said when asked about the progress Lagway has made. “We’ve seen progress every day. We continue to trend in the right direction.”

“I think he’s trying,” Napier said at the time. “He wants to try to find a pathway to make this work. It’s touch and go. Look, the guy’s giving it his best shot. We’ll see where we’re at in the league. There’s no secret to it anymore. You guys will have a good idea where we’re at when we approach kickoff.”
Florida and LSU are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET in The Swamp on Saturday. The Tigers come off of an embarrassing loss of their own after they fell 42-13 to No. 9-ranked Alabama, essentially ruining any chances they had left of making it into the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.
With a vote of confidence recently placed in Napier by athletic director Scott Stricklin, it will be interesting to watch how he makes the most of an opportunity against a shaky LSU team.
