For much of the offseason, former Florida defensive lineman Caleb Brantley was seen as a likely second-round pick. Just prior to the NFL Draft, however, Brantley was charged with misdemeanor battery for an altercation with a woman in early April.

During the altercation, Brantley allegedly punched the woman in her face, knocking her unconscious and displacing a tooth. The news caused many teams to take Brantley off their draft boards altogether, and the former Florida defender dropped all the way to the fifth round, where he was selected by the Cleveland Browns.

Although he’s been drafted, it’s not a guarantee that Brantley remains a Brown for long.

This remains a very fluid situation as Cleveland continues to look into Brantley’s situation. There’s no questioning his on-field talent, but Brantley must convince teams he’s not going to be a problem off of it.
