Perhaps a new tradition has been started at Florida — the gifting of the mini wine bottle.

If you recall, earlier this week, Gators head coach Dan Mullen received a small wine bottle as a joke gift from Florida legend Steve Spurrier. It was gifted to Mullen after the Gators had an historic offensive day in their season opener this past Saturday, putting up a school-record 642 total yards.

Mullen said he was hoping to receive a nice bottle of wine from Spurrier after the performance, and Spurrier said he’d give him two if Florida won the SEC championship. For now, Spurrier just gave Mullen the mini bottle until that happens.

Well, Mullen didn’t hold on to that mini bottle for long. On Wednesday, Florida’s Scott Stricklin won the 2020 Athletic Director of the Year Award from the Sports Business Journal at the Sports Business Awards. And what do you think Mullen gave Stricklin as a gift for winning?

Obviously, that mini wine bottle:

Now, the question is — who will Stricklin re-gift it to? Will anybody ever drink it? Has this turned into a new Gators tradition?

In the meantime, Mullen will look to get Florida closer to the SEC title so he can get a better gift from Spurrier. The Gators are set to play their home opener against South Carolina on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at noon ET on ESPN.
