Dan Mullen’s Florida Gators are 2-0 on the season but there’s some concern how UF will fare as the competition gets tougher.

The Florida offense has lit up the scoreboard in two games, but the defense has yet to deliver a dominant performance. In UF’s 38-24 win over South Carolina, the Gamecocks got off 30 more offensive snaps than the Gators (83-53).

Mullen was asked about the defensive’s struggle to get off the field.

“It’s not one thing, it’s multiple things,” Mullen told reporters, per Thomas Goldkamp of 247Sports. “So… we won by two touchdowns. We made the plays we needed to. Every little detail of the game concerns me.

“I know you guys want to know if it’s this or that. Every little aspect of the game concerns me. Offense going three-and-out concerns me. That’s really bad defense. Our offense is extremely responsible for playing defense. Twice we give them the ball at midfield and in the fourth quarter we come out with two three-and-outs offensively, so that’s really bad defense played by the offense.”

The Florida offense went three-and-out twice in the fourth quarter, allowing the Gamecocks to hang around. South Carolina, which was trying to knock off another No. 3 on the road after last year’s upset win at Georgia, came one play away from making it a one-score game in the fourth quarter.

The Gators will look to put it all together in Week 3 facing the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies in College Station.
