ESPN’s David Pollack on Dan Mullen: ‘If you don’t buy in to what he’s done, you’re an idiot’

Through his first 18 games at Florida, Dan Mullen is 15-3. What he has done with a roster made up of multiple recruiting classes he inherited from the Jim McElwain staff (2015-17) and two classes of his own (2018-19) has impressed many members of the national media.

The ESPN “College GameDay” crew is in Gainesville, Florida for Saturday’s Auburn-Florida top-10 showdown. Georgia great and ESPN analyst David Pollack met with local reporters on Friday. When asked for his thoughts on Mullen rebuilding the Gators roster, Pollack made one thing clear: he thinks highly of Mullen when it comes to Xs and Os.

“No game-changing running back like you had back in the day with Percy Harvin … Fred Taylor’s way back in the day,” Pollack said regarding offensive talent, per the Orlando Sentinel’s Edgar Thompson. “I think offensively, some freaks up front would be really nice. I think there’s a lot of teams, like Alabama and Georgia, that all of their guys literally would start on this offense – offensive lines would come over. So they need more depth and guys up front to protect. I think it’s getting better, but it’s not the scariest one in the country.

“… So I think that’s Dan’s biggest challenge. I don’t doubt Dan one million percent when it comes to Xs and Os and football. He’s proven himself. If you don’t buy in to what he’s done, you’re an idiot. I can’t help you. I can’t fix you. But from a recruiting standpoint, can he get those guys out wide and those playmakers? Because if you get that, this offense goes from really good to next-level great. And a quarterback, he’ll find one I’m sure that will do what he wants from a running standpoint – Nick Fitzgerald, Dak Prescott, those guys, Fitzgerald set all the rushing records.”

We can expect to hear more thoughts from Pollack on Mullen’s Gators during “College GameDay” on Saturday.
