Florida secondary coach Will Harris is leaving Gainesville for a role with Miami, according to a report.
Gators Online’s Keith Niebuhr was first to share that news on Thursday evening. Harris was with Florida for just over 1 year as he joined the program in December of 2023 after previously working for the Los Angeles Chargers.
His departure represents a rather significant loss for the Gators. Florida improved its pass defensive efficiency rating from 146.29 in 2023 to 124.42 in 2024 with Harris in charge of the secondary. UF’s ranking in that category in the SEC also jumped from 13th in 2023 to 9th in 2024.
Notably, Florida’s secondary put up good performances in November in wins over LSU, Ole Miss and Florida State. That was particularly true in the win over the Tigers and Seminoles as Florida held them to under 5.5 yards per attempt through the air.
Harris was also impactful on the recruiting trail. The Gators signed 4 defensive backs out of high school in the class of 2025, including 3 who are considered blue-chip prospects. Four-star cornerback Ben Hanks Jr. is considered one of the most highly-rated prospects in UF’s 2025 class, regardless of position.
Florida and Miami are set to face off at Hard Rock Stadium this fall.
