Florida assistant Taurean Green to remain with Gators following sexual assault allegations
Florida assistant Taurean Green will continue working with the men’s basketball team despite recent reports that he has been accused of sexual assault, head coach Todd Golden said on Friday.
On Thursday, ESPN reported that an employee within the Florida athletic department had filed a Title IX complaint against Green, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in March 2024. In a statement provided to ESPN, the University of Florida said it was prohibited from commenting on “the existence or status of investigations” and that it “takes these matters seriously.”
Ahead of the Gators’ game against Texas on Saturday, Golden met with reporters for a regularly scheduled media availability. He opened that availability by addressing the situation involving Green and lambasting the attention that had been suddenly brought to an internal investigation.
“I simply want to say that I support my staff and I would suggest people do not rush to judgment based off a headline,” Golden said, per Swamp247’s Graham Hall. “For me, I am just frustrated and disappointed that a Title IX mechanism that is created to protect both sides during a situation like this — that confidentiality and privacy continues to be abused. So, as frustrating and as disappointing and as hard as it is to do, I am going to do what I think I need to do and continue to respect the process, as I have. As always, I will continue to respect and appreciate the support for my family and our program at this time.”
Asked if anything has been done within his program over the last 3 years — by himself or by members of his staff — that he’s ashamed of, Golden answered with a simple, “No.” Golden is also the subject of an ongoing Title IX investigation as well. Accusations against Golden for sexual harassment and stalking became public in November.
“Perception is perception. It is not reality,” Golden said. “I am in this program every day. I see how our staff acts. I see how our players act. I am proud of what we’ve done since we’ve got here. And that’s all I can do is keep my head up and keep working.”
Golden signed a 6-year deal with Florida prior to the 2022-23 season. In March 2024, he signed a 2-year extension tying him to the school through the 2029-30 season.
Green is in his third season with the program and his second as an assistant coach.
