Florida’s defensive line depth is taking a hit.

Chris McClellan took to social media on Sunday evening to announce that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal after 2 seasons playing for Billy Napier.

“I would like to begin by expressing my sincere appreciation to God for His guidance, without which none of this would have been possible,” McClellan wrote in a note posted to social media. “I also want to acknowledge and thank Coach Napier and the University of Florida for providing me with invaluable opportunities and life-changing experiences that have shaped me.

“However, after careful consideration and heartfelt conversations with my family, I have reached a difficult decision to enter the transfer portal. I want to take a moment to express my utmost gratitude to my teammates and coaches, who have been by my side throughout my journey and have taught me valuable lessons that I will carry with me forever. The bonds that have been formed will always hold a special place in my heart. Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to the Gator Nation for embracing a young person from Oklahoma who will continue to pursue his dreams.

“With love, 7 out”

McClellan, from North Tulsa, had an interesting recruitment. Rated 4-stars, the No. 1 player from Oklahoma and No. 90 prospect nationally in the Class of 2022 on the 247Sports Composite, McClellan verbally committed to Florida when the Gators did not have a full-time head coach. After Napier’s hiring, McClellan followed through on his pledge and signed with UF.

Over the past 2 seasons, McClellan played in all 25 games, making his first start in 2023. Listed at 6-3, 320 pounds, McClellan totaled 46 tackles, including 3.5 for loss with 2 sacks and 1 fumble recovery.
