Florida is moving forward with a trademark application around Billy Napier’s popular catch phrase.

Napier’s phrase, “Scared money don’t make money,” became popular last season when he explained why he went for a touchdown instead of a field goal. It got additional traction shortly after he was hired at Florida. The news was first reported by Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney.

The filing date was April 14, and it covers clothing and wearing apparel, entertainment services, athletic events, tournaments and exhibitions.

The Tampa Bay Times noted earlier this spring that only 9 teams in the nation went for it more often than Napier’s Ragin’ Cajuns did last year (37 attempts). Their conversion percentage (59.5 percent) was six points better than the national median.

“The big thing here is that these decisions are very calculated, right?” Napier said after his introductory news conference in December.
