The Florida athletic department revealed Wednesday that one member of the football team has the coronavirus. It is the first positive test result since Dan Mullen’s Gators entered fall camp.

The University Athletic association released numbers showing recent test results for both all student-athletes and just members of the football team. Monday’s test results show 7 UF athletes have tested positive. Since the May 26 return to campus, 42 student-athletes have tested positive, including 22 football players.

The big question is how many Gator football players are in quarantine with one positive case on the team. COVID-19 exposure from high-risk contact has resulted in double-digit practice absences around the SEC, most recently at Tennessee, South Carolina and Ole Miss.

Florida opens the 2020 season at Ole Miss on Sept. 26. The game is set for a noon ET kickoff on ESPN.
