Florida is reaching into the SEC West to lure a familiar face back to Gainesville.

Florida is expected to hire Mississippi State’s Jamar Chaney as a senior defensive analyst, sources told Matt Zenitz of On3sports. Chaney is a former Mississippi State and NFL linebacker who was on staff at Mississippi State the last 2 years as a senior analyst.

A native of Fort Pierce, Florida, Chaney spent the 2019 season at Florida as the assistant director of player personnel. He played for the Bulldogs from 2005-09. Before his stint at Florida, Chaney was head coach of his alma mater, St. Lucie West Centennial High School, where he went 11-8-1 and coached the school to its first playoff appearance in 7 seasons, per his MSU bio.

Chaney earned All-SEC honors as a junior in 2007, and he later played in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders.
