Florida football is wearing black uniforms for the first time in program history. In the early going, it looked like the Gators might be dressed for a funeral.

Billy Napier’s team got off to a disastrous start. Arkansas marched down the field on its opening drive, notching an early 7-0 lead. The Razorbacks quickly made it 14-0 in Gainesville with a defensive score on Florida’s first possession.

College football fans openly entertained the idea that the black uniforms were bad luck. Down 14-0, it started to seem like maybe black wasn’t the right look for the Gators.

Here’s a sample of the early social reaction:

Good news for Florida fans in favor of Napier’s black uniforms to recognize military service. The Gators have captured the momentum, tying it up by scoring the next 14 points. Arkansas’ final 1st quarter possession ended with the Gators picking off KJ Jefferson. UF was unable to capitalize on the turnover.

The game is airing on ESPN2.
