Jim McElwain’s critics are coming out in force as the news has surfaced this afternoon that the Florida coach has been let go from his job less than three seasons into his tenure in Gainesville.

FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt remembered how McElwain left Colorado State, and they shaped his opinion of the coach today.

Apparently, McElwain’s departure from Colorado State left a bad taste in the mouth of several people, including one-time defensive line coach Greg Lupfer, who shared his thoughts on McElwain not offering him a job at Florida to the Denver Post.

“I knew that if you didn’t win you get fired. But I didn’t think you could go 10-3 and lose your job,” Lupfer said. “Sometimes loyalty is thrown out the door.

Three of those assistants were retained by new CSU head coach Mike Bobo, the newspaper reported. McElwain took two assistants with him to Florida. Three others found jobs elsewhere. But Lupfer and tight ends coach Art Valero did not find another coaching job.
