One of the top defensive prospects in the nation in the 2021 recruiting cycle has just made his decision.

Five-star lineman Leonard Taylor of Miami Palmetto committed to Miami over Florida live during a ceremony broadcast by CBS Sports HQ. The Hurricanes now have two five-star prospects committed to the program’s 2021 recruiting cycle as Taylor joins standout defensive back James Williams as a Miami commit.

Interestingly, Miami had to beat out Georgia (for Williams) and Florida (for Taylor) to land the commitments of the two highest-rated prospects in the program’s current recruiting class.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Taylor is rated as the No. 3 defensive tackle in the country, the No. 6 overall prospect from Florida and the No. 27 overall recruit in the nation for the 2021 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings.

When his high school playing career comes to an end, Taylor is committed to participating in the 2021 Under Armour All-American Game.

Believed to be a longtime lean toward Dan Mullen’s Florida program, Manny Diaz and company put forth a late push to keep the South Florida native home and those efforts paid off on Thursday.

To get an idea of the rare athleticism Taylor has for a player of his size, check out his junior season highlight reel with Miami Palmetto High School. The first play of the reel features Taylor tipping a pass at the line of scrimmage, intercepting the pass and returning it for a touchdown.

Keep in mind he’s the biggest player on the field while he’s doing all of this.
