Marcus Stokes, a 4-star quarterback out of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (Nease), has announced a commitment to play in the SEC.

Stokes committed to Florida after a reported 14 offers. He is listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, and rated the No. 22 quarterback in the class of 2023, along with being the No. 78 player in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite. He shared his thoughts on the commitment with On3 Sports. The former Penn State commit flipped his pledge to the Gators.

“Ever since me and my family moved to Florida, we all agreed not to leave,” Stokes said. “Florida is home and has always treated me and my family well. If things are going great, why leave? Also, I believe in what coach Napier and the whole Florida staff is doing, and I want to be a part of it.”

Here’s his scouting report from 247Sports:

The type of quarterback that isn’t afraid to take risks and push the limits. Measured roughly 6-foot-2, 185 pounds spring before senior season and has room to add some more mass, if needed. Shouldn’t exactly be viewed as a true dual-threat talent, but is a crafty runner that’s more than capable of finding success and moving the chains on designed runs. Thrives as a passer when he’s on the move and will squeeze the ball into tight windows as he escapes pressure. Serves up a rather tight spiral and will use a variety of different arm angles to execute off-platform throws. A bit of a late bloomer that didn’t become a full-time starter until he was a junior. Found instant success in a RPO-heavy spread attack leading a Nease program to one of its best seasons since Tim Tebow was suiting up for the Panthers as he totaled over 3,000 yards of offense and had a hand in over 25 touchdowns. Will likely need a few years to get adjusted to the speed and everyday demands of big-time Power 5 football, but has the skill set to eventually emerge as a starter on Saturdays. Violate play style could lead to unexpected wins, but could also result in unexpected losses. NFL ceiling given competitive edge and natural feel for the position, but must keep progressing and find ways to limit mistakes.
