News of Demarkcus Bowman entering transfer portal stirs excitement within Gator Nation
It didn’t take any time at all for news of Clemson running back Demarkcus Bowman entering the transfer portal to stir some excitement for Florida players, fans and coaches.
Bowman, a 5-star running back out of Lakeland, Florida, was the No. 20 recruit in the 2020 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 3 running back.
Bowman has only been at Clemson for two games. He had six carries for 22 yards in the Tigers’ season opener against Wake Forest on Sept. 12, then had three carries for 10 yards against The Citadel on Sept. 19.
It’s worth noting that Bowman was heavily recruited by Florida, and reportedly picked Clemson over the Gators, Georgia and Florida State. That may be part of the reason the 247Sports Transfer Crystal Ball listed the Gators at 100 percent. After all, his last three non-Clemson recruiting interactions were Bowman visiting Florida, or Gators assistant Larry Scott visiting him.
The Gators have signed some of Bowman’s former Lakeland teammates in the past two recruiting classes, including tight end Keon Zipperer, defensive end Lloyd Summerall, guard Deyavie Hammond and cornerback Fenley Graham.
Here’s Bowman even “liking” some tweets related to Florida.

Knox you better be in Bowmans ear right about now
Do anything to keep him out of Miami
Umm, Kirby and Del are already on that!!! Why would he choose Florida? He already turned y’all down once! I’m not him. But if it were me. I WOULD GO TO UGA!!!! WHERE THEY PLAY 5 STAR RUNNING BACKS AND PUT THEM IN THE NFL LIKE CLOCKWORK!!!!
PS. GO TO UGA KID!!!! Stay away from Mullen unless you enjoy being a DECOY to allow Trask to throw or run himself!!!! Miami or UGA!!! But run from Mullen like he is the plague!!!!
King Negan
Hey genius, he already turned UGA down once too.
Why would he choose Florida? Maybe he has a TV and saw yalls run game against arky?
Kneegan- The dude said he chose Clemson to be near his grandpa because they were so close. He actually lived in Atlanta area and still didn’t choose UGA. Unfortunately he died and Bowman wants to be closer to home now. Are you ill informed?
Come on man, Negan is not ill informed, he’s just ill
White and Cook have been extremely underwhelming give me Pierce over either one
Anybody know how this would work on scholarships? We’re finally back up to 85.
He couldn’t play this season, so he’d likely transfer in for the spring semester in January and scholarships would be adjusted between the incoming 2021 class and outgoing players. The scholly would be found, no doubt, even if they had to grayshirt a freshman.
His Grandfather died so ur wrong on everything thing
Fyi I think its just for 2 and half trip home and he were his 2nd choice I believe
Hope to I’m right so much lol
How does his reason for transfer have anything to do with Florida’s scholarship availability? 85 is the limit per team – period. If the Gators have 85 scholarship players on the roster at the moment, there’s no room to add another till one opens up – usually when the fall semester is over and players exhaust eligibility, declare, or transfer out. Mullen’s not going to yank some kid’s scholarship in-season (and in-semester) to make room for a high-profile transfer – that would be disastrous for morale, PR, and likely recruiting.
And even if somehow a scholly became available tomorrow and Bowman managed to transfer in next week and wanted to suit up this season, he’d have to go through the whole eligibility waiver process with both the NCAA and SEC – and that likely wouldn’t be determined before the season is complete. I can’t think of any example of a FBS player transferring in-season and attempting to play immediately. CFB isn’t MLB.
He’d actually only need to go through the waiver process with the NCAA since he’s not transferring from another SEC school.
Yeah, that’s true. So much recent conversation about SEC transfer rulings, it was on my mind. Waiting on the NCAA to make a coherent decision is bad enough.
My comment was premature. I was thinking about this season, where we already have 85 scholarships allocated, but it seems unlikely that his NCAA waiver paperwork would get done and the process completed before the end of the season. 2021 is not a problem.
Man……ridiculous to go this hard. Wow.
This is Florida’s To LOSE !…..Should be a Shoo-In for the Gators !
Yep think we got em
Got zipp and Summerall his old boys and we will need more then Georgia Bama anyone could sell him on needing him next yr
Him and Nayquan could be sick af together
Also Fenley who was a huge part of that Lakeland team on both sides of the ball
Deep down, I have a sick feeling that knox will find a way to mess this up. Obviously hoping for the opposite.
He’s one of the main reasons he’s coming
Why always the negative Nancy, take a deep breath and relax
It’s just my natural instinct to be negative, so that when the opposite happens, I’m pleasantly surprised.
OK but think about it. Were you thinking about Bowman yesterday before the news broke? No. None of us were. So if he comes great, if not we are still in the happy place
Mullen will be directly involved in this one.
Some of you on here keep ripping on Knox. He is a heck of a RBs coach and Florida is lucky to have him. The recruiting part will happen as RB recruits realize how RBs get coached up by Knox and play in the NFL.
This is all fine and dandy and I hope he comes to Gainsville. Speaking of RB transfers, what the heck happened to Lingard?
Good question. He may just be behind the curve with no spring practice.
According to a tweet that I saw posted earlier, Linger is dealing with an injured ankle.
Him and Pierce would be a heck of a combo next year.
or how about him and Linzo Lingard.
