The Florida Gators officially hired Dan Mullen Sunday night, and the reported amount of his contract would make Mullen one of the highest paid coaches in the SEC.

It was announced Sunday evening that Mullen was returning to coach the Gators after coaching at Mississippi State since 2009. Mullen was previously the OC at Florida from 2005-08 before leading the Bulldogs to 69 wins during his time at MSU.

He will now face high expectations with the Gators, and a report from Monday indicated that Mullen’s contract will pay around $6 million annually.

Pat Dooley shared the numbers on Twitter:

According to the updated salaries of coaches that were released earlier this season, that number would make Mullen the second highest paid coach in the SEC, trailing only Nick Saban. While that is a large number, it is also worth noting that Mullen was already making $4.5 million at Mississippi State and was the fourth highest paid coach in the conference during the 2017 season.

It certainly is a nice payday for Mullen, but he will now face the increased expectations of turning Florida back into a top 10 program. Fans will just have to wait and see if Mullen is able to produce big things with the Gators.
