On Sunday afternoon, news broke that the Florida Gators had parted ways with head coach Jim McElwain.

Though nothing has been made official by the school, there is sufficient evidence that a move has been made, which means the Gators now need a new coach.

According to college football insider Brett McMurphy, defensive coordinator Randy Shannon is expected to take over as interim coach:

ESPN and The Read Optional also speculated that Shannon would be the interim coach should McElwain get fired.

Shannon has been with Florida since McElwain took over in 2015, and also spent the 2007-2010 seasons as the head coach of Miami.

With that experience under his belt, Shannon seems to be a smart choice to take over in McElwain’s absence.

Whether the players respond to him remains to be seen, but the team is reportedly in his hands for the final four games of the 2017 season.
