Florida suspended seven players, including star WR Antonio Callaway, over the misuse of financial aid funds according to a report by Trey Wallace of The Read Optional.

While Florida did not give a reason for the suspensions in its official release announcing the suspensions, sources told Wallace it involved improper of financial aid money.

Wallace describes the funds as “Student Aid debit cards.” Players reportedly purchased electronics with the cards and then sold the electronics for cash.

According to Wallace, this is far from uncommon. What caused the university to look into the activity was the players reporting the debit cards as stolen. The school then investigated for possible credit card fraud. The school’s investigation determined that the cards had not been stolen and that players were improperly using the funds.

Florida coach Jim McElwain has a press conference, previously scheduled, at 12:15 p.m. ET on Monday.

Thomas Goldkamp of 247Sports also reported the players bought and sold electronics with the funds. A source confirmed misuse of funds to the Associated Press as well.
