Dan Mullen and his Florida Gators are having a difficult year and stand at the crossroads of the season with a 4-4 record.

But former Gators quarterback now SEC college football analyst Tim Tebow, thinks that Gator fans need to pump the breaks and give Mullen an opportunity to make things right.

Tebow said this on “The Paul Finebaum Show” Friday.

“Probably no message they’d want to hear. I think you hate to say patience, but a little bit of understanding with it and that’s not something that necessarily a lot of fans in the SEC understand, is the building blocks. I think you could really look at it and say going into last week, Florida had a chance to be undefeated, now they’re 4-4. Right, it looks drastically different, I think it’s trying to step back and understand the why and sometimes in the media they don’t explain why, they just talk about the results. I think understanding the why, I mean, you’re really 1 play away from beating Alabama.”

Tebow continued.

“You’re a field goal away from beating Kentucky, 4 or 5 different plays from beating LSU. The Georgia game definitely got out of hand. I think what Dan’s doing overall is a really good job. You look at what he’s done the last 3 seasons, last year by far the closest team to beating Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. So I think he’s doing a lot of really good things, but I also think there’s a few pieces missing. There are a few pieces with the physicality of the offensive line, a few pieces with the consistency of defense.”

Tebow also said he thinks the Gators just need to fill out a few pieces to get back on track.

“Being able to find the right pieces and I think he’ll make the right changes and adapt to get back to being successful. Obviously, you want Florida fans to want their team to be the best. It’s one thing that makes the SEC different is when you’re not the best, you’re going to do whatever you’ve got to do to get there and I believe that Dan will make those changes to get there.”
