Urban Meyer and Dan Mullen won two national championships during their time together at Florida, with Mullen serving as Meyer’s offensive coordinator.

Therefore, it’s no surprise the two former colleagues have the utmost respect for one another, even after Meyer left for Ohio State and Mullen went to Mississippi State.

Now that Mullen is back in Gainesville as the Gators’ head coach, though, Meyer said he fully supports the hire and thinks Mullen will do great things in the SEC East (via Jacksonville.com):

“It’s great for Florida, a great hire,” Meyer said. ”[Mullen] knows the landscape, knows Florida … the SEC East will feel Dan Mullen.”

Gator fans hope Mullen can restore some ferocity to the team’s offense, which has been largely stagnant since Mullen and Tim Tebow left town.

Meyer seems to think Mullen has what it takes to bring the Gators back to national prominence, though, and that’s a solid endorsement for the new Florida coach.
