WATCH: CBS Sports analysts are stunned when Brian Jones picks Florida to make it to Playoff
Every year, there are some surprising picks made by media members, but one made by CBS Sports analyst Brian Jones on Wednesday night might take the cake.
The “Inside College Football” crew made their picks for the four College Football Playoff squads, and one of Jones’s selections drew quite a bit of surprise.
As you can see in the video below, Jones has Clemson as his No. 1 team, facing off against No. 4 Washington. From there, though, he has Florida as the No. 2 seed, facing off against No. 3 Michigan State:

“Florida has everyone coming back and now they have quarterback whisperer Dan Mullen,” Jones explains as his colleagues continue to react with surprise.
Florida should be a better team than it was last year, but picking the Gators to make the Playoff is definitely one scorching hot take.
Ummm what?
Dang, not to be negative but that’s not happening. Won’t happen for us this year either. Maybe next year or the year after that…
Ya looks like Tennesse and Florida can start to turn it around and be successful in year 3 hopefully but this guy is out of his mind
Not trying to bash Tennessee, but I highly doubt that anyone could bring them back from the dooley/jones days to national title contention in two years, and maybe only Saban would have a shot to do it in 3. Is it possible? Of course. But it is not at all likely. You can hope, but for Pruitt’s sake, don’t expect it.
Agree
We are a long way out right now. Pruitts year 4 or 5 if he proves his ability.
Fuzzy, I wont be surprised if Pruitt turns UT around in a big hurry. It’ll take a year or two of high quality recruiting to rebuild that roster. But, if you guys start pulling in top 5 recruiting classes in 2019 and 2020, Id expect to see the Vols in contention. If those recruiting classes are ranked mid-teens or lower, then it could be a long time.
A lot of media members seem to be in love with UF, though not to this degree. That’s why they play the games though, so we will see. That would be an all world turnaround.
Auburn 2012: 3-9
Auburn 2013: 12-2, SEC Champs, 13 Seconds from a National Championship
You’re right about being an all-world turnaround, but if we can go from a triple digit ranking to a hair shy of winning it all, anything can definitely happen.
You do remember that that season was when Auburn had lightning strike twice for them? First, it was the Prayer at Jordan Hare then the kick six in the Iron Bowl. It’s not like Auburn was really good in 2013 after going 3-9 in 2012. Plus, Auburn won several of those in the last few minutes. That could have easily been a 5-7 win season. Auburn just got extremely lucky.
You’re saying 1 lucky play against UGA (btw yall still had a chance to come back and win after that play and we murdered Aaron Murray) was the difference between 12-2 and 5-7? Are you trying to say beating Bama was luck? Which part?
We beat some damn good teams in 2013, most of them convincingly. Including Manzeil on the road.
You must think Bama got lucky last year too huh?
Show me any top teams in the last 30 years that didn’t require some luck in a few games to get there. Hell arguably one of the greatest teams in history, the 2001 Hurricanes, needed a late interception against BC to win and needed a late int by Ed Reed against VT to win that game.
Idk why I mean Im hopeful in a turn around but I just dont see the pieces on this team be an sec champ let alone east champ or even a 10 win team
Drugs
G*d D*mn what is this man smoking because i need a hit. But for real can i have his job if he’s really that dumb to put florida at 2 or to even make the playoffs for that matter
As a UGA fan, I’d love to see FLA improve, but damn…
It will be nice to have a strong SEC East again. Been too long. But I think this guy confused UFL with UGA.
Pretty funny, not only does he have us in the playoffs, but he has us as a #2 seed. I don’t think there’s a single Gator fan in this world that thinks that’s possible. I have no doubt this team is going to be better than everyone is expecting, but they won’t be that good. Not unless Franks suddenly morphs into Tom Brady.
Judging by the pressers after fall practices and scrimmages, Franks looks more like Wayne Brady than Tom Brady.
whats a Wayne Brady?? lol
A purveyor of physical comedy ;-)
Gotcha lol ;)
Obviously he’s an expert who’s done his research, and we shouldn’t question the experts.
I want a strong SEC East and I see Florida as integral to that, but this prediction is beyond outlandish. This man should lose credibility to the point of demotion for such a “hot take”. Mullen will no doubt get Florida rolling again and the SEC will be better because of it. But #2 seed in this seasons playoff? Is he actually serious?
SDS, where reporters and journalists come to report what other outlets reported.
Lol these reporters on that weed… lol they left out bama too I can agree with him on that
Lol to put the candle on the cake he said Michigan State. lol who gave this man his credentials?
Omg, this article is the funniest ever. Lmao
Jones tries so hard to pick against Alabama each and every year, and always comes across as the fool that he is. Funny how he goes far out on a limb to pick Florida and Michigan State, but has to stick to precious Clemson, who won’t be beating anyone of consequence unless they change quarterbacks. Whomever wins the west would love to face Florida in Atlanta, because it was be as one sided as it usually is against the eastern rep.
