Mike Norvell is restructuring his contract on the heels of a disastrous campaign for Florida State. It includes a massive contribution from the head coach to help launch fundraising efforts at FSU.

One year removed from one of the best regular seasons in program history, Norvell’s team produced one of the worst with a 2-10 overall record. FSU went just 1-7 in ACC action, the only full-length season for the program to win less than 3 conference games in its illustrious history.

Now, Norvell is giving back — literally — via a restructured contract heading into 2025. According to FSU’s Monday morning releases, Norvell’s restructured deal includes a $4.5 million contribution from the coach to help launch the Vision of Excellence initiative.

That initiative is described as a fundraising campaign to raise FSU athletics “to new heights of comprehensive excellence.” According to Norvell’s statement on the matter, it was something he personally presented to the administration with a desire to be proactive in financially assisting the Seminoles.

“I presented this to our administration in an effort to boost the support of our student-athletes while recognizing that the results and expectations need to be upheld to the highest level,” Norvell said. “I wanted to be proactive in my financial assistance through this time of transition as we all push forward to get back to the standard of Florida State football. Great days are ahead, and I’m grateful to coach these players and lead this staff. We have been hard at work to uphold the tradition here at Florida State, and I believe this step will help accelerate the process to where I know we are going.”

We’ll see how the Seminoles put that money to good use, but there is no denying FSU faces a battle to get back into contention after just recently going 23-4 overall across the 2022-23 seasons.
