It’s a sad day for Bulldogs fans and the football community. The University of Georgia has lost a legend.

It was announced on Wednesday that Charley Trippi, a former Georgia Bulldog player and member of the College Football Hall of Fame, had passed away at age 100.

Trippi, an all-around athlete, spent time at quarterback, defensive back, punter and return specialist for Georgia from 1942 until 1946. Trippi, together with Heisman winner Frank Sinkwich, led Georgia to its first national championship in 1942, going 11-1 in the regular season. He led the Dawgs to a 9–0 victory over UCLA in the 1943 Rose Bowl. Trippi missed the 1944 season to serve in WWII.

An overall first draft pick, Trippi played for the Chicago Cardinals from 1947-1955. There, he amassed 6,053 yards of total offense (3,506 rushing, 2,547 passing and 1,321 receiving).

Trippi was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame and Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
