Projected 2014 starters: Georgia Bulldogs
SDS starts a series of predicting the game one starters for all 14 SEC teams. Next up, the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Georgia Bulldogs open the season at home against ranked Clemson, and here is our projected starting lineup:
Offense | Defense | ||
QB | Hutson Mason | DE | Sterling Bailey |
RB | Todd Gurley | DT | Chris Mayes |
WR | Chris Conley | DE | Ray Drew |
WR | Michael Bennett | OLB | Leonard Floyd |
WR | Isaiah McKenzie | MLB | Amarlo Herrera |
TE | Jay Rome | MLB | Ramik Wilson |
LT | John Theus | OLB | Jordan Jenkins |
LG | Brandon Kublanow | CB | Damian Swann |
C | David Andrews | CB | Sheldon Dawson |
RG | Greg Pyke | SS | Corey Moore |
RT | Kolton Houston | FS | Quincy Mauger |
Takeaways:
- There shouldn’t be any surprises on offense for the Bulldogs, but assuming Malcolm Mitchell isn’t ready to play against Clemson, freshman Isaiah McKenzie could get the starting job. McKenzie has been turning heads this fall, and he could be an immediate impact player. But if Mitchell is healthy, he’ll start at receiver, along with Chris Conley and Michael Bennett.
- The linebacker corps could be the best in the entire country, and we haven’t even started talking about freshman Lorenzo Carter yet. However, the defensive line and secondary remain a concern. Only Damian Swann has solidified a starting spot at either D-line or the secondary, and there will be more shuffling prior to the start of the season.
