Over the weekend, a Georgia baseball player allegedly used derogatory racial language to refer to Georgia QB Justin Fields.

Though nothing official has come of this potentially ugly situation yet, Georgia coach Kirby Smart was asked about it on Tuesday.

Smart said he has spoken with Fields, adding that language like that is completely unacceptable and unbefitting of the Georgia program:

It’s sad that language like this continues to be used, especially from one Georgia athlete to another.

However, Smart’s comments against it were strong, and hopefully will set the tone for the program moving forward. For now, though, Fields will have to try to brush it off, knowing that his coach has his back if anything like this happens again in the future.
