Georgia head coach Kirby Smart spoke with reporters on Tuesday, and was asked about star cornerback Kelee Ringo, who is most beloved by Georgia fans for his Pick-6 play in the national championship win over Alabama.

Several Georgia fans have admitted that they’ve watched the play many times.

On Tuesday, Smart told the media about Ringo, “You worry about a play like that going to a guy’s head. He was the first to admit ‘I’m not where I need to be.’ He’s been a leader, he’s been an everyday work guy. He’s worked really hard to be a good player. The play doesn’t define the player. But he can’t let that do that to him. He can still ascend. He has a lot of things he can improve on.”

Smart knows he has lost many key starters from last year’s defense that ranked first in the nation in points allowed per game (10.2). One of the biggest three returning starters to Georgia’s defense is Ringo, who is still young as he is a redshirt sophomore.

Last season, Ringo accounted for 34 total tackles, 26 solo tackles, 1 sack, 8 pass breakups, 2 interceptions with 1 defensive touchdown. Ringo is rated as No. 12 in ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay’s preseason top 50 board.
