On Friday, it appeared Georgia had received good news about JT Daniels as it was reported that the USC transfer had been medically cleared to return to the practice field coming off of a torn ACL. Sunday, however, Kirby Smart said differently.
According to UGA beat reporters on a video conference call with Smart, the Bulldogs head coach said Daniels is not yet cleared. Daniels tore his ACL in USC’s 2019 season opener. He had initial surgery on Sept. 25, 2019 and a later minor follow up to clean up scar tissue, per Mike Griffith of Dawg Nation.
Smart reportedly had better news on fellow quarterback Jamie Newman. The Wake Forest transfer missed some time during summer with a mid-foot sprain but is back in action.
On the call, Smart also shared that wide receiver Dom Blaylock, who is dealing with a knee injury, is not completely cleared to practice or play. Smart also said that Kelee Ringo is out after having his shoulder worked on. It was recently reported that the 5-star freshman underwent surgery in Athens to repair a torn labrum.
SEC teams open fall camp practices on Monday.
Kirby Smart said QB J.T. Daniels is not cleared yet after his knee surgery last year. QB Jamie Newman is back now from a mid-foot sprain. WR Dom Blaylock (knee) is not completely cleared to practice or play. CB Kelee Ringo had a “shoulder repair,” and is an out for a while.
