Georgia won its season opener over Appalachian State in dominant fashion Saturday by a margin of 31-10. The win came at a cost, however, as sophomore quarterback Jacob Eason left the game after suffering an injury and failed to return.

In his postgame press conference, Georgia coach Kirby Smart identified the injury as only a sprain. Smart said he would need to find out more before commenting further. Now with more information at hand, the leader of the Bulldog program updated the status of his signal caller during his Monday press conference.

“I’ll open on a quick update on Jacob, we found he has a sprained left knee ligament. Not sure the length of time he’ll be out. It will be week-to-week,” Smart revealed.

“The injury is non-surgical. He will be back this year. We were fortunate it wasn’t worse than it was.”

Smart was then asked a follow up to clarify Eason’s status for Notre Dame.

“Just to clarify, Jacob will not play this week. He’s week-to-week,” Smart answered.
