5-star QB Justin Fields was a huge part of Georgia’s 2018 recruiting class, and he saw some action this fall backing up starter Jake Fromm.

However, with Fromm returning for his junior year (and potentially a senior season in 2020), Fields’ role is unclear moving forward.

For that reason, it was reported by USA TODAY’s Dan Wolken on Monday that Fields intends to transfer from the program and explore other options:

Highly touted quarterback Justin Fields has notified Georgia he intends to transfer, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school has not yet acknowledged the transfer.

Fields appeared in 12 games this year and was used primarily as a rusher, running for 266 yards and four touchdowns. He also threw for 328 yards and four scores.

Where he intends to go (or if he is actually leaving at all, as sources have been wrong before) remains to be seen, but this would be a huge loss for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.
