Georgia continues its march toward landing the SEC’s best recruiting class for the 2018 cycle with Thursday providing the latest pickup to the team’s haul with the commitment of four-star running back James Cook. Cook, a former Florida State commit, is the younger brother of former FSU All-American running back Dalvin Cook, now of the Minnesota Vikings.

The 5-foot-11, 181-pound Cook ranks as the nation’s No. 3 running back prospect according to his 247Sports Composite Rating. Cook has also been selected to compete in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Game.

With Cook becoming the latest elite prospect to join Georgia’s recruiting class, the Dawgs will jump up and claim the No. 5 spot in the national recruiting rankings and seize the top overall ranking in the SEC — jumping over Florida during the same week UGA plays the Gators in Jacksonville.

UGA’s 7-0 start to the 2017 season may not have started until the Sept. 2 contest in Athens against Appalachian State but the foundation for the team’s success was initially laid last December when Nick Chubb and Sony Michel unexpectedly announced they would return for their senior seasons.

While both backs will head to the NFL in the near future, thanks to the commitment of five-star Zamir White and the return of D’Andre Swift, Brian Herrien, and Elijah Holyfield, Georgia’s backfield should be loaded once again in 2018.

Of course, you can never have too much depth at the running back position in the SEC, something Georgia coach Kirby Smart learned during this time in Tuscaloosa.
