James Cook has long been considered a lock for FSU, where his brother was potentially the best running back in program history, but recent developments have shown why nothing can be assumed in college recruiting.

“UGA, UGA, UGA, and that is about it,” James Cook said to 247Sports’ Kipp Adams when asked about his recent schedule of visits.

In fact, the younger Cook hasn’t been to Tallahassee since last year, which has opened the door for Kirby Smart and Georgia to slide right in. Smart, as well as Georgia Running Backs Coach Dell McGee and area recruiter James Coley have been hot on the case of late, booking Cook and his mom to two recent visits.

“RBU,” Cook said about UGA. “Dell McGee is a wonderful coach, a great person who will teach you about life on and off the field.”

Cook says there will be an abundance of playing time after the departure of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel next year.

“I would start as a freshman,” he continued. “Zamir White, we would be thunder and lightning.”

Although Cook seems intrigued by UGA, he says he’s still committed to FSU … for now.

“As of right now, I am committed [to FSU],” said Cook.

Kirby Smart has been an ace recruiter since taking over for Mark Richt at Georgia, and if anyone could sway a recruit to its side of the fence, it could be Smart and his staff.
