The Georgia football equipment staff on its way to South Carolina on Friday morning took time to pay tribute to Burt Reynolds, who died this week at the age of 82.

The staff’s Twitter account posted a video of the equipment truck pulling out of Athens at 7 a.m. with the theme song, “East Bound and Down” from the movie “Smokey and the Bandit.” In fact, that would have been a fitting road song as they rolled east on Interstate 20 toward Williams-Brice Stadium ahead of Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS against South Carolina.

Reynolds has a couple connections to Georgia, most notably Rabun County, where filming took place for the movie “Deliverance.” “Deliverance” was the first of six movies filmed by Reynolds in Georgia.

Also, during a practice in 1982, Reynolds and fellow actor Jim Nabors visited Athens to meet star running back Herschel Walker.
