Well, Mark Stoops got his wish.

The great people of the Commonwealth were ready to roll for that noon kickoff, and as a result, so was his team.

For the 3rd time in as many seasons, and for the 4th time in the last 6 seasons, Kentucky took care of Florida with a 33-14 win. The rivalry that was once a house of horrors with 31 consecutive Florida victories has clearly taken on a new chapter.

Here are 3 takeaways from Kentucky’s statement win against the Gators:

1. Ray Davis is that dude

You know, just in case there was any doubt. A year after he led Vanderbilt to an upset win against Florida, he dominated the Gators again. This time, Davis ran for more yards than any FBS player this season. He finished the day with a career-high 280 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.

He actually might’ve made his most impressive play on his 1 catch of the day. Davis toed the sideline, broke 2 Florida tackles and dragged another into the end zone.

All you need to know about Davis’ day against that helpless Gators’ front is that on his 4th touchdown, the Gators lined up with 13 defenders … and they still couldn’t stop him from getting into the end zone. Yep. It was that dominant.

Davis said, “I want to thank God and I want to thank the Big Blue Wall.” He’s right. That group deserved plenty of credit, as well, for Davis’ historic day.

2. Florida has been the same team in 2 road games

Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

Florida went on the road, got off to an incredibly slow start on both sides of the ball, and then shot itself in the foot every time it tried to put a comeback together. This was the Utah script all over again.

The Gators even had a “leap over the shield” penalty on a punt attempt that kept Davis and the Kentucky offense on the field. That immediately resulted in a Davis touchdown.

It was 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Florida got beat in the trenches with 9 tackles for loss allowed, and it didn’t sack Devin Leary once while Davis ran wild.

Florida has road games remaining against South Carolina, LSU and Mizzou. It’s hard to expect anything but slopping showings.

3. Undefeated Kentucky now travels to … Georgia

The Cats will take their 5-0 mark into Athens, where we’ll find out a lot about Stoops’ program. One would think that Kentucky needs to get the passing game going to have a chance against the 2-time defending champs. That area just hasn’t looked crisp yet.

Then again, Georgia entered the day ranked just No. 49 in FBS against the run. Maybe the Dawgs will join the club of teams who can’t slow down Davis.

There might not have been any defense on earth who could’ve stood in his way on Saturday afternoon.
