Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen’s name has been floated as a potential option for a Power 5 job.

On Sunday, Syracuse head coach Dino Babers was fired after 8 seasons. The Orange lost on Saturday to fall to 5-6 on the season. ESPN’s Pete Thamel unveiled some names that could come up as Babers’ replacement, and Coen was included. Jason Candle, Bronco Mendenhall, Doug Marrone, Tony White, Al Golden, Curt Cignetti, Jim Knowles, Sean Lewis, Bob Chesney, and Teryl Austin were the other names floated as potential fits.

The 2023 season marked Coen’s return to Lexington as the OC for the Wildcats. Coen was OC in 2021 before leaving for the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. He decided to rejoin Mark Stoops’ staff this offseason. Under Coen, the Wildcats are No. 66 in scoring offense, No. 100 total offense, No. 92 rushing offense, and No. 93 passing offense in 2023.

Coen is from the northeast, growing up in Rhode Island and playing college ball at UMass. The coach has also had stops at Brown, Maine, and Rhode Island.
