Kentucky will need to reload the 2024 recruiting class after a string of departures following the exit of John Calipari and the hiring of Mark Pope.

On Monday, it was reported that 5-star guard Boogie Fland is seeking a release from his national letter of intent. A top 25 prospect for the cycle, Fland reopening his recruitment leaves Kentucky with just 2 pieces left in the recruiting class.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, Fland is a 5-star recruit per the 247 Sports Composite. He’s the 18th player in the country and the No. 2 combo guard per the system.

Prior to the coaching change, Kentucky held the No. 2 recruiting class in the country with an elite group of 5-star players that included Fland, Jayden Quaintance and Karter Knox. Somto Cyril, a 4-star big man, has also reopened his recruitment.

Billy Richmond, a 5-star shooting guard, and 4-star point guard Travis Perry are currently still committed to Kentucky. We’ll see if those pieces remain committed, but Pope has his early work cut out for him to try and rebuild the recruiting class.
