Mark Stoops gave a difficult injury update at his Monday press conference when the Kentucky coach announced that DL Octavious Oxendine would be out for the season with a lower leg injury. Stoops said he suffered the injury at the end of the LSU game on Saturday.

It’s an especially tough thing for the defense, which is already missing Marquan McCall.

Oxendine had started the previous 3 games for Kentucky on the defensive line, but the 6-foot-1, 318-pounder left Kroger Field on crutches.

About Georgia overall, Stoops said the defense is in a class by itself with how much it has separated itself in several categories from the rest of the SEC, in terms of yards allowed. But the offense also contributes.

“You see why they’re ranked No. 1 in the country,” Stoops said of Georgia. “Incredible defense, doing good things on offense, a complete football team.”

Stoops added that Georgia puts a lot of pressure on opponents because it’s so good just playing its base defense. Stoops also called the Georgia defensive stats “ridiculous.”
